The reserve has an approximate area of 3500 hectares of native Mediterranean forest, highlighting species such as quillay, peumo, boldo, maitén, litre, and molle, among others. It also protects an important area of espino, another considerable area of exotic plantations, and the water mirror of the reservoir, which at maximum capacity reaches 1700 hectares.
The Los Coipos trail, located northeast of the administration, about 2300 meters from the main access (km 87.3 of Route 68), has an extension of 900 meters and is characterized by its flat topography, making it of low difficulty. It has restrooms, eight picnic sites for cold snacks (with capacity between two and six people each), nine interpretation stations, and a viewpoint to enjoy the view of the espinal, part of the reservoir, flora, and fauna.
