This park represents an important floristic convergence center, with species from the north, center, south, and Andean regions. Together with semi-desert communities growing on north-facing slopes, southern-type forests develop on south-facing slopes. Above 1600 m altitude, Andean communities grow, and at low altitudes (up to 1000 m), shrubs and forests of the central zone. A wide range of animals coexist here, representing almost all species present in Chile's Mediterranean zone. Notable species include the colocolo cat, culpeo fox, chilla fox, and a great variety of birds, reptiles, and invertebrates. The largest Chilean palm (Jubaea chilensis) palm grove in the country stands out here.
